Radiation Protective Garments (2014)

Radiation protection worn by medical professionals during radiological diagnostic imaging is particularly uncomfortable; radiology aprons are heavy and don’t breathe very well, which causes ergonomic problems and difficulty concentrating. In collaboration with Smart Textiles (University of Borås, Sweden), Sahlgrenska University HospitalCentre for Health Technology Halland, and Chalmers University – Ten Medical Design (10MD) has developed a new, flexible radiation-protection material for aprons that will be comfortable even for operations lasting many hours.

Incorporating their new radiation-protective material, I designed protective medical garments that met 10MD’s vision of a more comfortable experience. Concentrating on elements of flexibility, breathability, weight distribution and branding, we produced the second- and third-generation apron prototypes for this growing company.
